Devils in the detail, God’s in adverts!

I’ve never cared for a religious debate.

I’m a “I don’t mind what you believe in, just don’t tell me about it” not to say I’ll tell you to “bugger off” if you start about whichever god you believe in. Just you go too far in telling me then I’ll tell you to “bugger off”.

Anyway, I think people should at least respect other peoples beliefs. As in not to take the pi$$ or plain insult (Our god’s better than your’s) even if it happens anyway.

But I saw something today that I though was just a wee bit wrong.

advert

Thats right folks! It’s David Vs. Goliath the small flash advert video game! I mean really do you have to use a Hebrew Bible story in order to con people into your “win a free X” style advert.

It might just be me (probably is) but thats just not the sort of thing you turn into an advert. Then again the advertising world has no respect for anything so I wouldn’t be too surprised at a jesus style one, or even Buddha.

How many people do I know that don’t treat their religion as a licence to be a t****r? I could count them on one hand and none of them are my age. The rest have no respect for other religions, atheists, or non-fundamentalists - previously I’d have wasted my breath arguing but I save my time by walking away from them now.

Jesus it’s still just us three here isn’t it! lol!

I think there is very little middle ground in religion these days and that’s why people hate it. On one hand you get people like me who are about as unreligious as you can get and don’t give stuff so long as it doesn’t offend someone 9but then it seems that most things do these days) (I’m an athiest I suppose but even most people who believe in “god” don’t go to church etc and have to think twice about what church they were actually baptised into).

On the other hand are the zealots and born agains who are quite frankly a law unto themselves. Only last year did a guy start preaching to me about how the Earth was 7000 years old and that dinosaurs were around only a few thousand years ago. I stood in stunned silence…. If you can call that “respect” that’s fair enough, but that fact is I dare not open my mouth because I think I’d have him in tears inside 5 minutes and jumping off the nearest roof inside the next 10 if I laid out my arguement.

Which leads me on to agreeing with Adam’s post in that advertising and the media are usually the ones to screw things up and sometimes even start wars.

t****r ??? I’m still guessing?!?! is it rude?

:-) Combatus - it’s rude enough for Dennis though not if you say that “tossing the caber is a classic Scottish sport” !!

Hey.

Just wanna agree with you here.

I really don’t care what people believe. I’ll even have a discussion about it if they really want but don’t try to tell me I am wrong for being an athiest.

There is a quote from a book that goes something like..

“…In other words, if you are a Christian, you probably don’t believe in the existence of Allah, Vishnu or any of the myriad of other gods that people have followed throughout history. I don’t believe in those gods either, so in this sense I’m not all that different to you. The only small difference is that I believe in one less God.”
