Fark.

It’s going to be one of them days I know it is.

I decided to play a little Xbox today and see if the new Burnout demo was open to Silver accounts yet. I pressed my 360’s on switch to a new and special thing.

A lovely red light and a big error on screen. Error 74. Having read about it, it’s one of three things. Either 1) It’s having a strop so you unplug everything then it’s fine. 2) AV cable is fooked or 3) A chip gone pop or similar.

So now I’m 360-less untill I can either fix it or buy a new one.

Crappit.

First thought that went through my mind was “just in time for Christmas” as if MS deliberately made 360s to be this unreliable. I should be less cynical…

Well don’t leave us in suspense like that, did letting it cool down have any effect? A new AV lead might be cheaper than the whole new unit for elimination purposes.

Not going to be the lead if the red lights on though is it? Sounds like its overheated like the ones on Kotaku that get mentioned every now and again (never used one myself)

Suck fest - and the Burnout demo is now available for Silver Live players as well!

“Suck fest - and the Burnout demo is now available for Silver Live players as well!”

Fan-fookin-tastic.

Anwyho, tried unplugging, replugging, diffrent AV cable, voodoo, MS themselves.

All thats left is the “poke it with a stick method” as it’s a specific chip thats gone pop. So I plan to yet again bust open my 360 and proceed to poke said chip with a stick….a chop stick to be exact.

If that don’t work then I have to buy an arcade 360 for £150~£180 odd. Which I don’t have.

So unless I start crapping money soon my little 360 life is over. No more Guitar Hero 3, no more Bioshock, no more Dead Rising.

….

*cries like a little girl*

my 360 broke and i had to send it back to Microsoft, if yours is broke do the same its free! a free phone number to call and they send you a collection notice from ups, all you do is package it up and call UPS to collect it wait a while (up to a month) and get your 360 in working order plus 1 month xbox live gold free! if your 360 decides to work just wrap it in towels to over heat it and shaft it completely and then call Microsoft.

when it came back it said what was wrong and my motherboard had gone!!!!! and i dont use my 360 that much. watched more DVD’s on it recently than playing games

Two problems with the return it idea.

1) I bought mine 2nd hand with no warranty from ebay. It was cheap.

2) You did look at my xbox? The big metallic gray thing with a blue fan and hacked cases? The internal gubbins are the same but bits are added. So they might notice it’s not “factory standard”.

Does give me an idea mind.

Then you are the tool for buying a modded xbox and thinking that it will surpass waranty. Also, the rule of thumb is to have 2 xbox360s: one for modding, the other for normal gaming experience(where you have to buy retail). The one that is modded WILL always be a throw away.

*sigh*

B-o-u-g-h-t 2-n-d h-a-n-d.

No warranty to begin with. Didn’t buy it modded did it myself. It went pop after being modded for around a year. No changed to the mobo of the console have been made.

What??? The one you mod is the one you keep! You improve airflow and heat dissapation!

Hope you get your 360 fixed somehow.

Well now I could do something on the brim of legality. My mate has a broken 360 still under warranty. He’s returning it to the shop he got it from as he just bought an elite instead.

Now his 360 still under the MS warranty. So I could do some fiddling and …. somehow my busted 360 internals get put in it and sent to MS then a nice new one is returned.

Then … somehow the old broken internals find their way back into the 360 which then goes back to the shop.

Somehow. 0_o

If it’s any consolation the new Burnout game, from the demo at least, seems to be the weakest so far. They’ve tacked on the whole half-arsed ‘roam the city’ thing that sucked so badly in Need For Speed Underground and done little, if anything with the gameplay beyond that. The driving around between races and faffing about is about the most blatant time sink feature I’ve ever seen and adds nothing. I was very disappointed.
