Annoying Fluffy Front Ends.

I’m getting pissed at prog’s with fluffy front ends.

I’m talking the good looking but completely pointless front ends.

I’ve been using Nero 8 for a week or two now and it has not one, not two but at least three diffrent front ends you can use. All of which contains different options so you have to know which does what to do what you want to do (clear?).

The Smart Start has no DVD video burning options, Express is just crap so you have to use the ROM. It’s pointless! Back when I had Nero 7 (which I’m going back to) you got a nice semi-fluffy GUI which wasn’t too bad. I clicked what I wanted and went about my day. All was well, happy and lovely.

I have the same problem with dreamweaver, vista, MSN Messenger! All pointlessly fluffy for the point of looking pretty and annoying people.

Just needed to vent that.

If you want to be ultra retro, then Version 3 of the Spanish CD Burner XP SE, takes you all the way back to the Adaptec Easy CD Creator interface of 10 years ago (versions 1-4), but also does DVD. The developer has now brought out v4, but you can still get the old one from his site ( www.cdburnerxp.se ) and it’s still free with a “Pay if you like” donation system.

Just goes to show that when a GUI works or when you’ve become used to it, learning something new just because a publisher wants to justify the expense of a new version isn’t always worth it.
