Evening Folks,
Yes, yes. This post is a day late and rather short but, sods you. There’s not allot out at the moment, as Mr Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw puts it “season known as bugger alls coming out”. So a look at what’s out recently and anything else I feel like.
Good: Mnemosyne
“The “hard-boiled science fiction action” story follows a Tokyo woman named Rin, an assassin named Laura that is hunting her down, and the series of bizarre incidents involving angel-like creatures. Visual novel game illustrator Ch?? Higashiguchi (Phantom of Inferno) created the original character designs, and Hiroshi Ohnogi (Gundam, Macross, Noein) is writing the scripts.”
Sex and violence all in one anime … sort of. The series is only on ep2 (45mins per ep) but the basics of it seem to be the same. Young-ish girl investigates stuff, crap hits fan, violence, ending. For the life of me I see nothing bad with that. The series does have the old odd anime thing about it in that Rin As?gi is cannot be killed. She can be screwed over fairly badly but has a sort of Wolverine healing thing going so even when she has around 1000 lumps of metal put into her (by one creepy evil doctor. We’re not talking bullets here but piercings) she takes a while and heals up. Now, this isn’t a super fast heal (pull out metal, hole heals) but more painful and laboured. It’s really good bit of action with nice dark looks (bit like a darker “Darker than Black”).
Animation is lovely throughout (being an OVA) and everything flows nicely but being only a few eps long not allot has been said about anyone so allot of key points are off in the murk somewhere. You can just watch for the violence and nudity but its also good a good story to it and (in ep1) zombies. Come on, it’s even got a shotgun glove thing. So, give that a look.
WTF; Kyouran Kazoku Nikki
“Thousand years before, Enka, the destroying god, dies with the word that its ‘child’ will destroy the world. A Thousands years later, some people (and non-human creatures) who have potential of being the children of Enka are found. They participate to the ‘Peaceful Family Project’, in order to find out who the real child of Enka is, and also to teach him or her about the love of family and stop it from destroying the world.”
Right, errm … this is the WTF anime for the week as I have NO clue what the hells happening in it. In the 1step there’s a loin, squid, robot (looks like it’s been ripped from Cyber City Oedo 808), a freaky cat girl. All living together and I really don’t have a clue.
HOWEVER, this series so far has been a bit of a giggle. It’s a guilty pleasure you wouldn’t tell your anime mates about. It’s silly, colourful and loud with little to no restraint and very much insane. Imagine if you had to take a load of super being and make a family. That’s about it. Okay. There’s a few normal people thrown in but still it’s mad.
Well, thats about it. Yeah, it’s short. Sue me.
