After the massive hype of GTA: IV, there’s not allot that can top that. I think DeadSpace is going to try though. DeadSpace is the new (coming soon) third person shooter from EA. I’ve been keeping an eye on it as it does look rather good apart from it’s really just “The Thing” in space with lasers and religious tones with this whole “Marker” thing. So there have been screenshots floating about and there was a big thing about how EA or someone on the production team for the game DIDN’T want a pause screen (so you couldn’t go for a wiz mid game or get another drink) which helped to get the game some blog time. Now EA has been adding to the hype with all new extra, one of which is a comic/YouTube series which seems odd to add in. The series is a prequel of DeadSpace series which (to me) takes away from the whole idea of the game.
I play for the story of a game, if the game itself happens to be good then all the better for it. Portal had a fairly good story, Crysis has little to no story, Half Life has an AWESOME story, Abe’s Oddysee has a good story (even if the game if keyboard snapping annoying). So why bring out a game where you already know the story? If it was a famous story then you would at least get the producers spin on it. DeadSpace is pretty much severing 70% of the story up on a plate before the game is out.
Basics of the story go as thus:
Bunch a people in space about to “crack” a planet, people are going nutty and can’t sleep since finding a big ass rock, big ass rock is a marker for some religion, more people go nutty, big rock glows, people kill each other, freaky mutated people show up because of the marker (mean to push human evolution along or something), poop hits fan, you’re left with a load of laser weapons and have to survive.
That’s pretty much it in a nut shell, okay I’ve HEAVILY shortened it but you get the idea.
I know the game will have all singing, all dancing graphics and weird combat mechanics (shooting crap in the head won’t always kill it, who knew!) but really. Why should I give two sh*ts if I already know the story? Sure I’d like to know what happens and I might get the game just for that (and to be scared sh**tless).
Although, it could just be the hype clouding my tiny mind to a much larger story, from the clips off YouTube there seems to be some larger evils at work here and what have you.
Ah well, have to see how it pans out. Or I can play the online narrative game to attempt to find out some more as to what will happen in this game. I think it’s just going to be a basic “DEAR LORDY LEG IT!” affair.
Have a look for yourself. You might like the look at it. Should at least give them graphics cards a work out.
NOTE - Trailers and game play are for 18+ year old. Due to GRAPHIC violence.
Issue One Of The Animated Series.
Edit - Yes, I know DeadSpace is two words. I ain’t editing this whole thing for that.
