I’m currently in love with Fallout 3 (to the point I want to make a non-working Bottle Cap Mine) but it has the major and massive problem of bugs, lots of bugs.
This got me to thinking; remember the old PS1 and the old PC games? I never had bugs in any of them. Sure you had the occasional one that you had to do something REALLY specific to do but still, you never had that many game killing bugs.
Fallout 3 has them in spades; random NPC death to missing quest objectives. I’ve never seen these problems in any other console or older pc game. It seems in the quest for “better” graphics someone missed out of a whole heap of testing.
It’s not my place to complain about PC game bugs, the PC is a varied and majestic bitch of a machine but consoles I wouldn’t expect this sort of crap. Yet, every time I turn on my 360 and boot up a game there is normally a patch of some kind to fix a bug.
Roll back a few years and the biggest bug I can think of is a few games with corruption of save game issues and one that crashed if you played it online with more than twelve games (which, being on the PS2 no one did).
I just find it odd that we all seem to clamour for graphics over stable games now. Unless then come from the soulless home of EA, in which case half the game is the same as the last version of it. Any new versions are so safe nothing could go wrong, unless they use the HAVOK engine.
Which sucks.
I fecking HATE the HAVOK engine.
This isn’t serious, right?
If it is, its the most serious case of rose-tinted nostalgia goggles I’ve ever seen.
Old PC games not having bugs? Oh my lordly. What a laugh.
Bah!
Leave me and my faded memory of the past be. Where air was cleaner and games less buggy than that of Saints Row 2 and Fallout 3.
At least if modern games have a bug they get patched!
games seem to have more bugs than they did. which doesnt mean older games didnt have bugs. i think the massive increase in complexity of games, the cost to develop and pressure to meet their deadlines, and the ability to patch after release all contributed to this culture of banging a game out even if its half broken and fixing it later. fallout 3 is bugged, so is far cry 2. but shockingly fable 2 appears to be half finished by comparison. never have i played as many console games that just arent ready for release as this generation so far.
Some degree of gibberish in your statements…
“in which case half the game is the same as the last version of it. Any new versions are so safe nothing could go wrong, unless they use the HAVOK engine.
