Pedal Power

Further to my previous post (seen below) on rocket powered transportation, I’m now going to take it back to where it all began : the humble wheel.

This is a most curious item for me, because I just do not know who the target buyer is.

I mean, short of an actual unicyclist - and how many of those do you know? - who would actually want this item?
It’s basically a 20″ wheel with pedals on it. It really has to be the most minimalist unicycle I have ever seen.

I do like this part of the description on the manufacturer’s site :

Weight : light! Unicycle

How the hell do you use that?

Isn’t it just walking….but….with a wheel.

I’m scouring the ‘net to see if anyone has bought one and recorded themselves using it.

I think the people on this YouTube clip are using them.

Wow just checked out a couple of people using them on youtube. These people seemed to have an awkward wobbliness, making them look really unstable and probably using more energy. I think the ultimate wheel won’t catch on, the dismounting and stopping qualities leave a lot to be desired as this seems to be just to fall off! What if you went through some mud, you’d get it all over your pants. Nah! Take it away Jenkins it sucks. Anyway it’s never going to be better than a bike for it’s stability and the wonder of brakes. Maybe some boffin could try to develop one with a giroscope and sort the stability problems, rather them than me though!
