The Second Coming

It’s been a while…. but the second coming of the Custom PC podcast is beginning. We recorded the long awaited Episode 17 of the podcast on Friday afternoon, and all being well, I’ll be able to edit it and upload it on Monday (2nd June). Apologies for the length of time it’s taken.

The five months since Christmas have passed in a bit of a blur; we’ve been understaffed and (for some reason) also decided to take on some of the biggest and most involved features and labs tests in the CPC history. Not a recipe for having spare time to sit down and cast a pod. However, our first new recruit of 2008 has now started, Orestis Bastounis, who joins us from Future Publishing in Bath. We’re very happy to have him on board, as it means we’ll be able to kick out lots more excellent stuff for you to read, watch and listen to.

Orestis joins myself and Phil on the podcast and we’ll be discussing:

* The upcoming Autumn graphics war between new, next-gen AMD/ATI and Nvidia graphics cards

* Windows 7

* Age of Conan, Assassin’s Creed and the rest of the top 10 games

* And finally, Clive will be looking ahead to the Computex trade show which kicks off next week, from where he and James will be reporting.

Thanks for your patience and encouragement, too - hopefully it will be worth the wait.

- Alex.

The podcast is very good and can be quite entertaining. YOU NEED TO DO MORE PODCASTS!!!

One a week would be good, it could be like a news roundup, and then one at the end of the month, which reflected the goings on.

It would be nice to have on every week but I don’t think they have enough time…

Anyway, I am really looking forward to it!

In the next issue of CustomPC I want you guys to put this out there; make it apart of the CPC experience, that would then give you good reason to keep it up to date.

Also I think more people would love to listen but I’m not sure they know it exist. What I’m trying to say is I don’t feel you guys advertise the podcast very well as I stumbled upon it myself (whilst being a reader for months).

Anyway thanks for the new podcast I’m in all day today so I’ll keep checking to see if it’s up.

@T Hachett - Thanks for your comment, and interesting suggestion. How should we promote it? We do stick it on the front page of the web site, and it is flagged in the mag at the end of Ben’s column (usually)… Full page house ad in the mag maybe?

@ Alex Watson

Yeah I also think it would be made a bit widely known, as I myself only stumbled across the podcast by clicking on the wrong link (best mistake I did!! LOL). I think you should have a notice in the next issue saying it’s back and also telling new people what the podcast is about, that way more people will potentially listen to it and thus, increasing the demand.

Yeah i think so. And uploading it to utube would be a good idea too (with a big CustomPC logo centre screen all the way through) ;)

From a business point of view, if it did get to big and people listen who don’t buy the magazine, then you could put quick ads at the beginning and end as to justify it’s existence.

BTW thanks for the brilliant 58th issue of the CPC mag as it was ace. With the pace of the GPU market we could do with a review like that every month *Alex faints*.

I know it was hard work from all you lot but it paid off; great edition to my ever growing CPC mag collection. Thanks.

@Alex
My above post got me thinking. Would it be possible for me to start a CustomPC fan page on Youtube. If so - would it legal for me to upload your podcasts or are they copyright protected. Also the content could be user based, i.e videos of their home biulds, inspired by CustomPC.

I can see the trouble in having a Utube page for yourselves as upkeep would increase workload, but a fan site, now there’s an idea.

I also feel that the CPC benchmark is a brilliant utility and could be widely used amongst the world. I understand there may be no commercial aspects to this, but by dong so, could widen the acknowledgement of CustomPC among the National and International communities.

I understand that your main focus is the magazine
(as it should be) but this won’t take anything away from it, if anything it will put CustomPC out there that bit more and that’s no bad thing now is it.

Oh and I’ve checked for names and the only thing I could get was.. CustomPCUK.

Thanks for taking the time to read my message hope it wasn’t to much wishful thinking. Bet you wish you never asked; lol.
