Welcome to the issue that nearly drove me mad. We suffered two major setbacks in Reviews this month, which meant lots of extra work for everyone. First off, we'd planned to review a load of water-cooling kit but, unfortunately, our thermal test rig broke during the first test. As chucking in any old motherboard as a replacement would mess up the thermals of the test equipment and lead to erroneous results, an identical replacement had to be ordered, and the wait meant that we wouldn't have time to properly test the water-cooling kits. Rather than do a rush job this month, we'll rebuild and recalibrate our test rig, and include the reviews in next month's issue.
Next, we were concerned that the spate of low scores in the multitasking benchmark meant that our reference score might be wrong (despite the months of testing we'd performed to obtain it). This led to Chris installing Vista a zillion times to check various combinations of Intel and Nvidia drivers, as well as investigating anything else that might skew the result. We didn't find anything amiss, however, so we're confident that our reference scores are accurate. However, our test kit was tied up for so long that we wouldn't have time to properly test all the motherboards we'd planned to include, so we had to shelve some for next month's motherboard Labs extravaganza.
We absolutely insist on not reviewing a product unless we can thoroughly and accurately test it, and it's crucial that we stick to this maxim despite any crisis that may befall us. And it's the readers of CPC that makes all our hard work worthwhile. Checking the forum is a great morale booster, as it's full of appreciative comments and interesting people. It's a nice place to visit, especially with people like vdbswong telling rude posters who demand 'links or gtfo plz' to 'google, politeness or 'stfu plz'! My thanks to the people who frequent the forum for maintaining my tenuous grasp on sanity, and if you'll excuse me, I'd better get on with planning Issue 52.
