Quicksaves, walk-throughs and cheat codes are for the weak. Check out our guide to 10 of the hardest PC games ever made.
You don’t need to learn to avoid getting shot if you can shrug off a bullet. You don’t need to learn to fight asymmetrically if you’ve got more tanks than the other guy. You don’t need to learn to dogfight when you’ve got Sidewinders. You don’t need to learn how to drive if you can bounce off concrete walls.
Some games take you on a lovely, fun-filled tour around a magical land where your character romps and stomps at will, fearing nothing, for he is the alpha and omega and there’s
always a health pack in the next crate.
Other games take you into their world, give you a character and then they kill that character. They kill him over, and over again. They kill him so often and so ruthlessly that you want to throw the game away in disgust, but you can’t, because it’s fun. So you get better. You get sharp, you get steely eyed, you think that extra move ahead, and you become a better player.
This list comprises the best of these games: ten brilliant PC games that are so hard they should have come with a hair loss warning. Complete all ten and yours is the world and all that’s in it, and what’s more you’ll be a man, my son. Even if you were female when you started playing. Make of that what you will.
Some Really Hard PC Games huh? Lemme see... Lemmings, Shadow Of The Beast 1, Commandos series (ok, let's skip the latest sequel), Desperados, Rogue, Syndicate (ok, that was on the list already), Oddworld: Abes Odyssey & Abes Exodus, The Unfair Platform (LOL, it IS a PC game!), RIVEN wtf the WHOLE Myst Series, Rick the Dangerous... Really... I look on my list and I just realised that PC Games nowdays are... PIECE OF CAKE (And the Cake is a LIE!!!!).
i love pokemon so i say it should be on that list right now !!!! (if there are any pokemon pc games)
GTA is on here, but not X-COM: UFO Defense? Author needs to play some older games- they tend to be a lot harder.
This is the easiest game i have ever played....ever
does anyone have a walk through for the game scratches?

Has the author of this article ever played any rogue-likes? Bottom line, these are the hardest PC games I have ever seen, people play them for YEARS and never beat them! The main reason is that you roll a character, play that character, and if he/she/it dies, you have to start over. It seems harsh, but if you have the cahones, it is brilliant!
I found Grim Fandango more difficult than Far Cry or AvP
Hi Patrician odds are some part of the site ate your comment, rather than it being censored. Things are not quite perfect yet.
Why is my post deleted? I just wrote, that Maupiti Island should be there! And it's also shame that there is no adventure or RPG (SS2 is near it, but..) game!
Grand theft auto shouldn't be included, I hate repetitive tasks like collecting, it's not hard it's just incredibly boring and stupid.
Playing AVP at night with the lights off and surround sound on was a great experience. You really did find yourself looking in the direction of the dark corners of your room for those telltale signs of black shiny head and white teeth coming to get you. Scared the willies out of me!
Good choice of games their, a shame the first 3 commandos games aren't their as they were insanely hard. i Think IL2 should have been higher since i play this a lot on-line on full realism, it proves it's extremely difficult espically if you have no externals on and you try to find the enemy
Commandos didn't make the list because it's similar to Syndicate, being a team based isometric RTS type game. Where games were very similar we went for the pick of the group, hence Ghost Recon and Operation Flashpoint lost out to Armed Assault, GTR2 lost out to Grand Prix Legends, and IL-2 was picked as the only flight sim.
The original Hidden and Dangerous was discounted because it was hard due to it being insanely bugged - the enemy could shoot you through cover. And I don't just mean bushes, I mean bridges, houses, tanks... Commandos on the other hand, now that was hard - the final missions were mental.
I tried playing H&D (1 and 2) but found them far too tricky, partly because of the control method, if I remember rightly.
Haven't you ever played the original Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines? I could only ever get two thirds of the way through. It was absolutely impossible to finish!
