Assists are TF2’s way of rewarding you for playing as part of a team. Even if you aren’t the one who kills an enemy, if you play a part in their destruction you will be awarded an assist point for helping to bring down the blaggard. If you hit an enemy and they escape to be healed, you will not be awarded an assist when they are finally killed.

Alerts and Voice comms

TF2 makes great use of the voice shortcuts we’ve grown used to in most multiplayer games. The Z key opens a menu for standard sayings, such as calling a medic and then thanking them, X opens the status dialogues for reporting enemies or taking action, and C opens a general menu with jeer, cheers, taunts, and cries.

If you want to communicate effectively, though, you’re better off pressing V and using voice. Be clear and polite, and people will often respond either by doing what you ask of them, or having a chat. When you become comfortable you should start using voice to report spies: ‘There’s a spy going downstairs to the intelligence, disguised as a Pyro!” may save the life of any engineers snoozing in the control room.

Why does an outline flash up when cloaked or disguised as a spy? Can TF2 be played offline?

quest - try pressing "t" in game. if that doesn't work, choose a spray in the options tab in the root menu. nick hurl - the most obvious problem is that unfortunately your computer isn't good enough. try checking for the latest updates for both steam and tf2. good luck!

team fortress 2: how do i get in???

i have the steam dedicated tf2 server and i've tried loging on to several of the on line games listed when the game intro screen comes up, but i can't get past about 2 3rds log in before my laptop crashes and reboots. any ideas?? i purchase the on line issue of the orange box set about 6 weeks ago. I get into all the half life games, including deathmatch, but getting into online games with portal and tf2 just aint appenin'

A mistake

You've made a mistake - where you say: "Your HUD is painted in the colour of your team so keep that in mind and you can steer clear of embarrassing friendly fire incidents." You actually want to shoot your own players, since friendly fire is off (you can't hurt your own team) and therefore any injuries caused to the victim will be due to the fact that the player in question is a spy from the opposing team. There is, in fact, nothing more embarrassing than running past your own team member for him to then stab you in the back. Except maybe healing him first!
