What happened to Rock? Custom PC interviews former Chief Executive

Posted at: Friday 4th July 2008

From boom to bust, we get the lowdown on what went wrong at Rock Group - and how everything is looking better for the future - from CEO, Nick Boardman.

CPC: People might be wary of buying from Rock now – is there anything you’d like to comment about in regards to this?

Nick: I could totally understand any reservations people may have in buying from Rock, however unlike in every other circumstance where a company has restarted after going into administration, potential customers will not be dealing with a brand new start-up company. Any new orders and warranties will be provided by Stone, a company that has been in business for 17 years. As we are able to continue the business in the same way as we always have, but now with the complete backing of the power of Stone, customers can be assured that we will continue to deliver our industry leading products and our award winning, second to none service levels.

CPC: What are your plans for Rock’s future?

Nick: In the immediate future we are locating to new premises in Warwick, as all production will take place at Stone’s HQ in Staffordshire. By the time this article is published, we would also have announced our new range of laptops based on Intel’s Centrino 2 platform. What our plans are further on than that - you will just have to wait and see.

CPC:
And finally.... ROK, Stone, Rock – what’s going on with all these rock-related names?

Nick: I know, I know. Paper and scissors were originally in the running, but Stone won out on the day.

It was not mentioned if the £220k, or any amount of it, was recovered or not. There's the damage one individual can do. I have used Rock laptops before now, and very good they are.

I'm amazed someone so high up within rock's financial situation has actually managed to steal so much cash, i amazed but also disgusted and i reckon those 3 years are well deserved. I hope that rock get back on there feet

Well it's certainly good for gamers. Not many manufacturers provides the same high end hardware as Rock. I think people should still take this as a lesson to pay with their credit card, that way they are protected even if the company goes bust.

Stonez and Rawkz..

This is actually quite sad. Though I am glad they are getting back on their feet, let's hope they can supply the same quality of Laptops as they did before.
