Gareth Latty rounds up ten ways Asus can make the next-gen EeePC the perfect tiny PC

Asus shook the world of mobile computing with the EeePC - a lightweight, affordable and perfectly functional device that started the netbook trend.  After such a great start with the Asus EeePC 701, the future is bright for netbooks. There's room for improvement though. We've put together ten improvements we'd make to the EeePC, in the hope that netbook designers, including Asus, are listening.

no.......you pay for the brand with sony. a HD resolution screen and a better chipset is certainly not too much to ask for. most of these now have 9 inch screens with 1024 x 600 so 10 inch versions with 1280 x 800 makes the most sense i have seen. there is no excuse for intel to use the ancient 945 chipset with a processor like the atom, its like fitting a ballet dancer with steel toe capped boots im sure everyone could understand that. SSDs will get bigger and cheaper. all this progression is logical

comunication issues

the price of GPS receivers comming out of china is amazing.. so i would like a receivce build into the lid , works when lids is open at the 90 degrea mark or when shut.. that would be handy , as long as u can manage the power usage properly..maybe a hard switch .. not a software option

Most of this is not hard. I mean look how small the Gamecube was, or how small the Wii is and its a lot more powerful than the EeePC. The Wii may only come with 512MB of flash memory but that is easily upgraded to 4GB and beyond. So most of this is completely possible.

not hard

to better the current generation of netbooks at all. intel are the ones behind the powering of these machine in the most part, and mostly its up to them to deliver the mobile customised chipset that atom deserves instead of the desktop hack up most of these machines are using. that will instantly address power consumption and battery life. dual core atoms will certainly be welcome, and modern integrated graphics would be very nice which goes hand in hand which the chipset refresh urgently needed. HD resolution screens, 1280 x 800 would be the logical step along with the aforementioned integrated graphics capable of full HD video decoding. larger and cheaper SSD, why should these machines put up with a mere 16 or 20GB of storage even though they are compact. all obvious but needed evolutionary steps for the netbook market to grow
