'Well first, we loaded up the program by clicking on this icon, here. Now, there's a funny story behind that, which I think we should get Kevin in to tell...'
You might think that growing up with just four TV channels was a hardship for kids of the 80s, but there was actually plenty of stuff to on the box to which kids could brainlessly glue themselves at Christmas. Not only was there nearly always a ‘Star Wars’ or ‘Indiana Jones’ film on, but there would also be plenty of ‘making of’ documentaries about the films that made you want to be a stuntman when you grew up.
You could marvel at the intricately detailed miniature train model that was built for ‘Back to the Future III,’ just so that it could be obliterated at the end of the scene. You could be amazed at Harrison Ford doing some of his own stunts in ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’. Heck, even watching Frank Oz operate Yoda live was an experience worth watching.
What do you get now? Yep, a couple of people mincing about in front of a green screen, followed by some interviews with computer programmers, which are all about as interesting as a conversation with a Mac zealot. Okay, so some of the computer effects are impressive, but the end product itself is nowhere near as impressive as a model of Medusa that’s been lovingly handcrafted by Ray Harryhausen.
