The Time Machine

The 2002 version was dire, but in both the most recent version and the black and white one, the time machine was a delightful mix of leather, wood, quartz and brass.

The Golden Compass

Not a triumph as far as the story is concerned, but the sets and props are spot on. From Wimshurst machines in old university studies to the worn canvas of the airships, and the mysterious brass and glass projector alternative that uses spheres for storage, it's a great place to look for inspiration.

Hellboy

Less Victorian, but it has a great wood, brass and cog theme running through it. From curious vials filled with mystical liquids to clockwork assassins and aquarium-walled libraries, it drips with a style that you could incorporate in your own mod.

Steamboy

Story-wise, this anime from Akira director Katsuhiro Otomo is confused and never delivers on its pure-Steampunk premise, but it's beautifully designed and packed with visual detail.
