Isambard Kingdom Brunel
You have probably seen his photograph before: with a dusty black suit and jaunty top hat, and smoking a terrifyingly huge cigar, Brunel may be dwarfed by the chains behind him, but his personality, and the engineering projects for which he's famous, were huge.
Charles Babbage
A man before his time, Babbage is famous as the designer of the Difference Engine, a clockwork computer. This amazing invention had the distinction of being the first computer.
Nikola Tesla
He had his quirks, but Tesla had brains and style in spades. Inventor of AC current, fluorescent tube lighting, wireless transmission of electricity (which we're only just beginning to use with coil transmission) and, according to some, designer of a death ray, Tesla was the typical mad inventor - complete with a ruthless competitor in the form of Thomas Edison.
