8 - Gigabyte M912 Tablet

Not simply another Eee clone

At Computex 2008 we were treated to a first glimpse of Gigabyte's entry into the netbook market, with what might be one of the cheapest tablet PCs around. Currently sporting a rather uninteresting name, the M912 will once again be powered by Intel's Atom. It was demonstrated running a Linux OS with working 'Tablet' functions (e.g. stylus and handwriting recognition), and although you might think a variant of Windows XP Tablet Edition would be a perfect complement for the hardware, it isn't certain if this will be offered by Gigabyte.

When first released, Tablet PCs spectacularly failed to get off the ground - there were plenty of reasons they didn't catch on, but overly large price and bulk were two. If it's cheap, light and has a decent battery life, the M912 could be the saviour of this form factor. On the other hand, it could well be another soon forgotten Tablet PC.
