Warmonger is a free-to-download first-person shooter, focusing on the use of destructible scenery to
enhance gameplay. Our build was the first to enable Nvidia PhysX-capable hardware to run the game.
One gameplay example that provided a lot of fun was when we decide to play as a sniper and proceded to move into a tall building. After climbing the stairs to the top, we turned around and launched a grenade at them. The stairs fell away into a pile of destruction and rubble, leaving us safe to pick off our enemies withour fear of anyone sneaking up on us.
Our fun was ended when an opponent realised our unassailable location and chose to destroy the platform we stood on with a grenade of his own, sending us plunging to our death.
In another example, we found ourselves enclosed within the narrow corridors of a building and became bored of trying to find the way out. Switching to our trusty grenade launcher, we started blasting the walls away, cutting a direct path to the outside via two sides of someone's living room.
Warmonger isn't perfect - for example none of the weapons are accurate enough to be useful - but the game certainly shows some of the possibilities of PhysX when it comes to changing the way we play games.
