1 - A better Linux distribution

Xandros isn't great

Currently, the EeePC is offered with either Linux or Windows XP, although for both manufacturers and many users, Linux would be the preferred choice, as it helps keep the cost of a netbook down and has modest system requirements. Linux is free, can be shipped with a variety of free software and its lower use of resources can improve battery life.

The Xandros distribution that comes with the EeePC is not the best Linux has to offer, as it’s been stripped and adjusted for inclusion on the EeePC. We prefer Canonical's Ubuntu Netbook Remix – a version of the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution designed specifically for netbooks. As with full-sized Ubuntu, it provides a sleek interface, looks good and is easier for novices to use than other distributions. This version is designed for smaller screens and the altered keyboard layouts present on most netbooks.
