No keyboard, thanks
No matter what shape portable computers take, when space is limited, input becomes a problem. In its current state, voice recognition software is ropey at times, and wouldn’t be able to replace the keyboard completely. If voice recognition software was bundled with the EeePC as standard, it could become possible to use a touchscreen EeePC, only occasionally using an on-screen keyboard, simply dictating to it most of the time – a real 21st Century way to interfact with a computer.
The EeePC already ships with a limited voice recognition system, which can handle a few commands, but this could be expanded upon to give the EeePC an entirely different interaction method with the user – faster and easier than traditional methods. With a small device like the EeePC, a keyboard that’s been squeezed into a tiny space is not a particularly attractive input method.
