Tweak Crysis

Phil Hartup explains which settings you need to tweak in Crysis to achieve a good balance between frame rates and fancy graphics.

Using a GeForce 8800 GTX, the best compromise between good effects and a smooth frame rate in 1,920 x 1,200 was Medium, but with High Texture Quality, Physics Quality and Particles Quality. However, advancing beyond this invited some moments of choppiness that made the game unplayable.

That said, stepping down the resolution to 1,680 x 1,050 allowed for the use of High settings in all the options. With older cards, it's worth considering compromising your resolution before entering the realm of Low Quality graphics - no amount of extra pixels can make them look pretty, and you'll see better visuals with Medium or High settings at a lower resolution.
