Once upon a time, Maxtor was synonymous with speed. However, since its acquisition by Seagate, the company's products are starting to dwindle in number. The 80GB DiamondMax 21 is the second slowest drive on test this month. It achieved the slowest score in our Gimp image editing test, and its throughput scores, as recorded by HD Tach 3 RW, are near the bottom of the table too. It also took the longest period of time of any drive to load Crysis. Costing 35p per gigabyte, there isn't much to recommend it.
