Just over a year ago, fitting 160GB onto a single platter would have been headline news. However, now that manufacturers are starting to offer 300GB per platter, the SpinPoint S166's areal density is nothing to write home about. Among the low-capacity drives, the SpinPoint S166 was the quickest at loading Crysis (other than the Raptor X, of course). Neither was it bottom of the class in our Gimp image editing test, and is the best-value drive in this class. Although its price of 19p per GB makes it relatively poor value compared with larger-capacity drives, if you can only scrape together £30 for a hard disk, then it's the best choice.
