In stark contrast to the Hitachi, the Samsung SpinPoint F1 showcases the 750GB drive in all its glory. Not only does it cost just 14p per gigabyte, but it's also a speed demon. It came joint fourth in the Gimp image editing test, and was second only to its 1TB sibling when loading the Relic level in Crysis.
As with the 1TB version, Samsung claims 333GB per platter for the 750GB SpinPoint F1. However, its model name implies that this drive has six heads (the L in HD753LJ), and therefore three platters. This means that the amount of usable storage on each platter is 250GB, and the HD Tach 3 RW scores verify this, with a sustained read speed of 76.9MB/sec and a write speed of 72.2MB/sec. The 13.6ms access time is very respectable.
The SpinPoint F1 is a supremely quick drive and, as it's the cheapest 750GB drive, it's brilliant value too. As it costs less than half the price of its 1TB sibling, the 750GB SpinPoint F1 makes much more economic sense.
