While a new CPU or graphics card could make a noticeable difference to which games and applications you can run on your PC, without a stable supply of power, all the costly upgrades you've made to your PC won't be worth a bean.

Verdict: The Silent Pro isn't silent, but it's one of the quietest PSUs ever made.
Silent Pro is Cooler Master's new range of enthusiast PSUs, which will eventually span 500W, 600W and 700W models as the range launches over the next few months.
We managed to get hold of the UK's first example of the Silent Pro M700W, and as you'd expect, it's rated at 700W. Like Corsair, OCZ and PC Power & Cooling, the Silent Pro M700W has a single 12V rail, so you don't need to worry about the connectors being able to provide enough power. The 12V rail is rated up to 50A, so it provides plenty of power for all but the most heavily stacked PC. The motherboard and CPU power cables are hard-wired into the PSU, but the two super-thin 6+2-pin PCI-E cables and various disk drive cables are modular.
The Silent Pro M700W is housed in a compact 150mm-long case, which will fit inside any chassis. The outer edges of the case are covered in a thin layer of silicon to prevent vibrations from the 135mm fan inside the PSU being transmitted into the case. This is the first time we've seen a PSU with this design, so Cooler Master should be commended for its innovative idea. The fan is quiet, even when the PSU is working flat out.
The Silent Pro M700W's was completely stable in our tests, and it also did well in the efficiency stakes, averaging 83 per cent at full load. Given the sub-£100 price, compact modular cables, quiet fan and innovative case coating, this is the best 700W PSU to date.
