Verdict: Cordless and rumbly, but it's not cheap
The Cordless Rumblepad is for those who want it all. Not only does it use a 2.4GHz RF interface with channel hopping so you can use it up to 6m away from your PC, but it also has force feedback. This makes it fairly large and heavy compared to the SaitekP3000 Wireless Gamepad, which doesn't rumble. Power comes from four AA batteries and Logitech claims up to 50 hours of gaming with one set.
Installation is simple; pressing any button on the controller establishes a connection with the USB receiver. When connected the two analog joysticks are precise and the throttle slider is particularly useful in flight sims.
Four trigger buttons, a POV hat and six main buttons offer plenty of control, while the mode button converts the left joystick into a second POV hat.
We experienced no latency in testing and no interference from microwaves or nearby wireless LANs. Force feedback was a bit limp in Need For Speed: Underground - the Saitek P2500 Rumble Pad was much more forceful and fun. Ultimately, if you must ditch your wires and have force feedback, the Logitech Cordless Rumblepad is the only choice. But, at £34, it ain't cheap.
