Verdict: Loads of features and good value

Style always comes at a price, but not in the LG's case. The LG doesn't quite usurp the Sharp for the prime spot on the catwalk, but it will shove your desktop's appearance up a few notches on the style-o-meter. The LG also has the most features of any TFT on test, which is the main reason why we simply had to recommend it.

The stickers on the silver bezel, which is a fairly Jabba the Hutt-like 29mm, remind you that the LG complies with TCO 03, but this isn't going to make a smidgen of difference in practice. One thing that might make a difference is the pivot capability, which lets you work in portrait mode, but most people probably won't use this much.

As with most of the other panels, you can wall-mount the LG, but we like the stand it comes with. Its height is adjustable by 60mm, using a spring to hold it at your desired elevation, and you can lock it into place at the lowest setting too.

A plastic back cover, similar to the Sony's, keeps things reasonably neat at the rear. Sliding it up and out of the way reveals D-SUB, DVI and power connections. In the box you'll find a clip-on, two-port USB hub - you can never have too many USB ports. Of course, you'll have to really want those features, as the LG can't quite match the Sharp for image quality.

We saw no interference from pixel jitter using the D-SUB interface, but even if you use the DVI port all the time, the LG still isn't perfect.

Despite the 16ms response time, we still noticed blurring in 'The Fast and The Furious' racing scenes that wasn't evident on the Sharp. Some stepping was noticeable in the technical tests, but this shouldn't show up in everyday use. The colour range is reasonably good, but reds are slightly weak. Greens, however, are particularly vibrant using the so-called movie mode profile - you can also select from normal, text and user definable settings.

If the ability to pivot is high on your list, the LG is a great choice. But in all other regards the Sharp is worth the extra money for its more stylish looks and superior image quality.
