Verdict: Proof that twin 120mm fan mounts do not guarantee a good case

The TJ02 is one of three SilverStone cases in this Labs test, and it's clearly the most conservative of the three.

While we're on a bit of crusade for all cases to be fitted with twin 120mm fans, it's still important to make sure that air can get to the fans easily, otherwise it doesn't matter how big they are. And that's the problem with the TJ02: the size and positioning of the front air intake means very little air can get inside. The intake is positioned on the bottom of the case, behind the front panel, which means that cool air has to take an indirect path to enter the case. This isn't a major issue in itself, but when you consider that many people will place their case on a carpeted floor, this intake will suck in lots of dust or, worse still, become blocked completely. At least the rear 120mm exhaust is free from obstructions, although it's disappointing that only one fan is provided.

Inside the TJ02 are four 5.25in, two external 3.5in and four internal 3.5in drive bays. Build quality is superb, and edges are nicely rounded. Four USB 2 ports, a FireWire port, and microphone and headphone jacks are tucked away behind a flap at the bottom of the front panel.

At just under £90 the TJ02 is very expensive for a case with no remarkable features. It looks and feels like a case from a couple of years ago, when cases with twin 120mm fan mounts were rare. Compared with the other SilverStone cases, the TJ05 and TJ06, it's a severe disappointment.
