Verdict: A very unusual design combined with a huge wind tunnel

Internally, the SilverStone TJ06 Temjin is almost identical to the ThermalRock Circle, but thankfully it looks nothing like it on the outside. Instead of resembling a Bang & Olufsen CD player, the TJ06 looks like a high-end PC case should - mean, moody and imposing. However, it's available in silver if you don't like the Darth Vader black aesthetics.

The inside of the TJ06 is totally different from standard cases because it's been flipped upside down. This means the motherboard sits on the left side of the case instead of the right. Superb cooling is provided by two 120mm fans - one intake at the front and one exhaust at the rear. These are linked together by a transparent plastic wind tunnel, so hot air from the CPU doesn't escape into the rest of the case. SilverStone even supplies an adaptor that widens the wind tunnel slightly at one end in order to support dual-processor motherboards. If you plan to water-cool your CPU then you can easily remove the wind tunnel. This may be necessary with some motherboards anyway, as the CPU socket(s) aren't always in the same place. Additional cooling is provided by an 80mm intake fan immediately behind the front panel, and there are two external 3.5in drive bays just above it.

The bulk of the drive bays and the PSU mount are located in a separate compartment at the top of the case. There are five 5.25in drive bays and six internal 3.5in drive bays. The latter are positioned at 90-degree angles to the front of the case, so its very easy to install drives. The PSU mount is particularly impressive, as it includes several rubber feet that should stop vibrations from the PSU fan being transmitted to the rest of the case.

A generous four USB 2 ports, a single FireWire port, and microphone and headphone jacks are located just to the left of the front panel. As with all the SilverStone cases we've seen, build quality is superb, utilising a mix of super-strong steel for the chassis and shapely aluminium for the front panel.

At £105.74, the black version of the TJ06 isn't cheap, but it's sensibly priced, considering the great cooling potential, E-ATX motherboard support and huge number of drive bays. If you've been searching for a case that looks and operates a little differently from most then the TJ06 is definitely worth investigating.
