Enermax is probably best known for its PSUs, although it also produces a range of cases, hard drive enclosures and fans. All three Enermax fans in this Labs test are variable-speed models, and are supplied with rheostats that allow you to adjust the fan's rotational speed.

The memorably named UC-12AEBS is a 120mm fan able to spin between 1,100 and 2,800rpm. Enermax claims that it produces between 26.9cfm at 16dBA at 1,100rpm, and 83.49cfm at 37dBA at 2,800rpm. However, in our tests, the UC-12AEBS proved capable of moving 43cfm at 27.1dBA - which sounded worse than the figure suggests - and 58cfm at 43.6dBA, which is extremely noisy.

Given that the UC-12AEBS makes an irritating noise even at its lowest speed, we can't recommend it.

Enermax also produces two 80mm fans, the UC-8ABS-B and UC-8AEBS. Unusually, Enermax doesn't publish the full specs of the UC-8ABS-B, but claims that the UC-8AEBS can shift 9.75cfm at 14dBA at 1,000rpm, and 44.81cfm at 32dBA at 2,400rpm.

At minimum fan speed, the UC-8ABS-B failed our 'black sack' test, but at maximum speed, it produced 38cfm and an irritating 37dBA of noise. At minimum fan speed, its noise level was below the ambient noise level of the testing chamber (20.1dBA). The UC-8AEBS also failed the 'black sack' test at minimum fan speed, but at maximum fan speed, its airflow was an impressive 47cfm, although it also generated 43.6dBA of noise.
