AMD needs some killer products to become competitive again
Evidence of AMD’s calamitous
financial predicament surfaced today, when it announced a net loss of $600
million US during the second quarter of this year. Comparatively, the CPU
maker’s main competitor, Intel, posted a net profit of $1.28 billion yesterday.
In the full report, AMD
reported its full second quarter 2007 revenue as $1.378 billion, its operating
loss as $457 million and its net loss as $600 million, or $1.09 per share.
AMD’s chief financial
officer, Robert J. Rivet said that ‘we must improve our financial results,’ but
he also said that the results were an improvement over those in the first
quarter of this year. He said that the company planned to ‘continue to focus on
realigning our business model and reducing our capital expenditures and cost
structure in the second half of the year.’
With nearly £2 billion US
between the two companies’ net profits; it’s clear who is winning in the CPU
market at the moment.
