New expansion pack will be all about Kane, and promises ‘Risk on steroids’
Every RTS fan’s favourite fanatical baldy, Kane, is already set to make a comeback early next year in a new expansion pack for Command & Conquer 3, called Kane’s Wrath.
The new game was announced on the sly today in the first Command & Conquer 3 Battlecast; an extremely cheesy and badly acted promo piece for Command & Conquer fans, which looks a little too much like its producer saw an episode of ‘Brass Eye’ and thought it was real. Nevertheless, there was plenty of good information in the piece for Command & Conquer fans.
During the Battlecast, which is also known as CCTV (see what they’ve done there?), the game’s producer, Jim Vessella, said that the new game would be ‘all about Kane, and that it would ‘take the player through the third Tiberium War and beyond in the story line.’
As well as the new storyline, Vessella also promised that Kane’s Wrath would include ‘new units, upgrades, powers, structures for each of the core factions, and each faction will also have two sub-factions.’ These sub-factions, said Vessella, will ‘also come with their own modified units, unique powers and upgrades and each one will cater to a specific play style, allowing players to really find the side that’s best for them.’ Over 24 new multiplayer maps will be added with Kane’s Wrath too.
Vessella was also keen to talk about a new ‘Global domination meta game,’ which he described as ‘a game like Risk, but on steroids.’ The game allows you to move your armies around the entire game world, and Vessella said that ‘when armies collide you’ll jump down into that vast, fluid C&C gameplay that you know and love. When you come out those units and armies will persist, allowing for a longer, more global campaign.’
As well as this, the Battlecast also announced the changes coming in Patch 1.07 for Command & Conquer 3, which is due later in August. The patch will apparently provide ‘critical balance changes’ and, more importantly, will also provide a modding kit that allows access to all of the game code and art, as well as the XML files for balancing factions, so that you can create your own Command & Conquer 3 mods.
