The annual Benchtec UK LN2 meet plays it cool with Core 2 Quad CPUs running at 5.6GHz
Nevertheless, newcomer 4QMan had a good day, posting some credible scores in 3DMark 2001 and 2003, placing him at positions 79 and 134 in the world respectively. However, as an LN2 virgin, he was still feeling his way with this form of cooling.
Meanwhile, Benchtec’s ThickBrit achieved 8.78 seconds in SuperPi and 18.41 seconds in PiFast. Not surprisingly, Benchtec UK founder BazX had the best results of all, though. He managed to push an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 from 3GHz to a phenomenal 5,605.43MHz, which was enough to give him the top UK spots in both Super PI 1M (8.55 seconds) and PiFast (17.83 seconds).
However, the UK still has a long way to go before it can take the fight to the likes of Team OCX and H.O.T. (Hellas O/C Team). The latter includes the infamous hipro5, currently the world’s number one overclocker with first or second place in every benchmark. Hopefully, with LN2 events such as the meet on December 27, knowledge and enthusiasm will grow and the UK will take the position it deserves.

and great to see the boys at Benchtec getting some good coverage. Benching outside in the cold is brilliant fun. I was doing it last month for the recent Benchtec competition, and every now and then a late night dog walker would notice a strange man bathed in Bios Blue in his back garden, swearing at his blue lit Antec 900, as he tried to get above 3.64ghz :) Great vid there, James, great to see the Team in action!
all i can say is congratulations guys, imagine what this can do for the industry. round of applause.
i work in an IC test area and we use LN2 to test some automotive parts at -40C I'ts very tough using liquid nitrogen - handling's a nightmare although we pipe it straight into the IC handler - makes the test process that little more complicated .... from my experience with LN2 I can really appreciate the effort that goes into this sort of extreme overclocking...
Might try putting mine in the fridge, see what i can do, or i could just sit outside in the snow and get peace from the wife, see if that helps me overclock :-)
