Want to work for Custom PC? We're looking to hire a Labs/Features editor
Want to spend your days being paid to test, tinker with and write about the latest and greatest PC hardware and games? Then you want to come and work for Custom PC, the UK's finest computer magazine and website.
We're looking to hire a new Labs & Features Editor. In this job you'll
contribute to two of Custom PC's core sections, its Labs tests and
Features. The role encompasses writing, commissioning and editing a
range of articles across both print and web. The ability to work well
under pressure and hit deadlines is key, as are exceptional
organisational and planning skills. Custom PC is a stylish and
entertaining read so this is a role that requires writing and editing
with flair, and approaching work with initiative and creativity.
You should have proven experience as a section editor or senior staff
writer on an IT or technology title (online or print), as well as a
love for PC hardware, modding, gaming and technology and excellent
technical knowledge. Multimedia experience (e.g. podcasting,
photography, video) would be an advantage.
The role is full-time and based at the offices of Dennis Publishing,
in the heart of London’s West End. It offers an excellent remuneration
and benefits package, along with plenty of scope for career
development. For the right candidate, Dennis will support a work visa
application. For more information about working at Dennis, see the
website, or the company poem.
To apply, email your CV, a 500-word review of your own PC in the Custom
PC style and a covering letter explaining why you're the best person
for the job to Alex Watson, Editor: alex [at] custompc.co.uk
Closing date: 29th February 2008
They forgot to mention that the successful candidate would need to also have a loathing of Futuremark products because of the scoring system and SLI because it doesn’t work in a lame driving game
In hearing from people who want to write for us. Not necessarily working full time, but we do commission tons of freelance work - several of the forum regulars contribute "How to" guides etc, so do get in touch if you're interested. -Alex, Editor. alex [at] custompc [dot] co [dot] uk
Well read this and weep you nubletts, I live just outside London, the West End is an hour away by train, my English skills are orgasmic and though I'm no poncy graduate (ie. I bathe regularly) I can write utter crap under pressure so well that the Bush administration wants to hire me as a speech writer. True my CV is lacklustre but then so was Ghengis Khans before he learnt to ride. I'm gonna apply. Love, Roachus
I love this Mag and everything to do with computers, can you not open up a lab in scotland at all??? as its along way to travel to work in london

I would give my left nut to work for CPC, but its too far from Wolverhampton, and I dont have any experience apart from self teaching trial and error. I wish this was for entry level candidates that way its somewhere for someone to start at the bottom of the ladder and work their way up.
''The ability to work well under pressure and hit deadlines is key, as are exceptional organisational and planning skills. Custom PC is a stylish and entertaining read '' --- Did i read correct :D I would apply, but unfortunatly for custompc i'am currently in the process of a BA degree in Business Management :D
I wish the offices were closer to me (in derbyshire). I am also in uni (sheffield hallam), in my first year and all....dam this "pay to work" rather than "paid to work" idea... Good luck to all who enter! P.S. CPC, if you ever fancy sending me hardware to review, i'm more than happy to do another blog :P
"@chrisriley99 Snap. I wish you guys did graduate recruitment... :( Comment by annonymouse at 1:17am 6th February 2008" I don't think spending 3 years in a pub would really help much...
If your looking for an Australina based UK citizen for any reason let me know. Alternatively if you have some useful unwanted parts then I could gladly take them off your hands and do a day to day running test on them !!
@chrisriley99 Snap. I wish you guys did graduate recruitment... :(
i think its about time they sorted them selves out after all i only have interest in what everyone else thinks on the web page because the reviews dont seem to be 100% accurate id prefere some good accurate reviews in any of the mags i read. So come on guys if you think you can write a full review then ask custom pc to make a page dedicated to CUSTOM Reviews and then have a competition and while that competition is on us joe public will vote on which is the best review and then i think that would be a mile better than what they're doing now. good luck guys and all the best.... oh and sorry for the rubbish grammar(dont think id make it as a good reviewer lol)
Can i wear a t shirt with a very rude word on it for my piccy in the mag ?
Same here (to the tune of A Modern Major-General) - I am the very model of a modern IT journalist I enumerate the pros and cons of hardware for your benefit I overclocked my pocket calculator for the hell of it On buses, CPUs and megahertz I am a lyricist I hunger for the chance to see new hardware at the earliest A job to write for CPC would make me quite delirious But I lack experience of being a senior IT journalist
Na. I've never been one for writing essays. If you employed me your reviews would be about five lines long. ;)
ME!! juat got to go for a quick 5+year sesh at school! will you sponsor our video reviews CPC??!??!?!
I WILL DO IT ...... when i finish school and collage and uni. LOL ! do you employee 15 year olds we have some sample video material!
God I wish I had some experience in IT journalism! I can tick all the other boxes!
