The new Phenom CPUs could costs as little as £60. Mesh is offering triple-core Phenom PCs for £499 inc VAT
We haven't had any official word from AMD about the launch of its triple-core Phenom processors, but UK PC manufacturer Mesh is already offering them as an option its range of xXx PCs.
Starting from £499 inc VAT, Mesh's xXx Plus comes with a triple-core Phenom 8400, 2GB of RAM and a 19in widescreen monitor (and, sadly, integrated graphics). As a point of comparison, upgrading the machine to a quad-core Phenom 9500 costs £70, so it looks like you can save a fair bit of cash by opting for a triple-core CPU. A Phenom 9500 chip currently costs £129.12, so a triple-core Phenom 8400 could end up costing around £60.
Mesh's UK sales manager, Dario Rebaudengo, said that 'AMD has priced these CPU's at a point where customers are able to choose high performance multi core CPUs at price points previously unheard of.'
when AMD and ATi got married they promissed PC powerhouse babies to the AMD fan babies sorrry fan boys but all we have seen so far is midget gems wich has left the fanboys screeeeming B S t u R R R D or someting
It makes sense to produce any kind of processor. It will fit your needs and your wallet. Sometimes this discussion about processor looks like a ferrari vs porshe debate, forgeting tha most people use slow and less expensive cars to drive them to their destiny. After all not everybody is fortunate enough to own a performance machine, and wats seems to be the only way of playing, is nothing but bragging.I, for years have enjoyed playing in less then perfect resolution and color depth and what always counted for me, was the game itself, not the bright lights (of course they do help alot).
AMD sucks Now, The End..... =-)
Amd could be onto a winner for the mass market i.e. people who couldn't care less about overclocking or just how many FPS you can get more than you mate!! Triple core should add enough to these systems that the average Joe Bloggs won't care if he using Intel or AMD therefore if the price is right the competition is back. A monopoly will be bad for consumers
The reason why it has 3 cores is than AMD produces \"real\" quadcores. So if AMD has one failed core out of four, it cannot sell it as quad. So MD sells it as 3 core CPU to salvage at least some costs. Intel on other produces dual cores and combines two of them into quad chip. So Intel makes more money as they have less failed units. Duhhh....
Intel are miles ahead just now no matter how many cores! They'll dominate for a few years then AMD will probably dominate and vice versa! I loved AMD when they had the Athlons out and where kickin P4 butt. So when i went to upgrade i last May i looked at AMD and found out that the Core 2 was owning so even tho i didnt want to buy Intel i had to as they had the best bang for buck! When i upgrade again in a year or so it'll prob b AMD who will have something else out that will be better than Intel. But who cares, as long as there is competition us consumers will enjoy the benefits!
God i hate Intel sheep who have nothing better to do than pan AMD, does it make you feel big??? is there a sturing in your pants.

The reason AMD have 3 cores is simple. Intel have a dual core and a quad core. AMD have a triple core and a quad core. If the Phenom actually turned out to be any good then its a brilliant ploy by AMD - i.e. why have two cores when you can have three? The triple core Phenom was never meant to be in direct competition with the Intel Quad. Think about it.
blah - its nice to see all you guys routing for the competition i hope amd die so that intel can charge you whatever they want for a cpu
With the biggest L O L ever... I believe Lostprophets came up with MEGALOLZ... Why the FECK are we going backwards to three cores from four.... Duhhhhhhhhhhh... Yawn... Go back to the drawing board please
Whats the betting that a sub £50 E2160 will kick seven shades of s*** out of a tri-core peenom ?
You know when you turn up at a party and find out that most people have pulled out, and theres only 5 people there instead of 50?? :O Feels a little like that! Anyway for what it's worth, £60ish is a good price to go at. I'm sure that will win a few ppl, as long as they an't changed there MB to 775 recently! LOL...then it might be worth it.. Let's wait for the Lab result..:)
You get a 9500 and an 8400GS IIRC for the SAME price, so better for the same really, and it's an instore price http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=438332&tab=specification
Lol I think the lack of comments for this one says it all
