New GT200 chips could be out in just a few months, says the rumour mill
Although Nvidia's GeForce 9800 GX2 has only just been released, rumours are starting to circulate about a successor to the card that could be released as early as July this year.
The guys at Expreview claim to have spoken to sources in the industry who say that Nvidia has a new G9x core codenamed GT200, which will be used in two new cards; the single-GPU GeForce 9900 GTX, and the dual-GPU GeForce 9900 GX2.
Expreview says it doesn’t have any more detailed information than that, but a forum user on Anandtech called TulipGTX claimed to have 3DMark scores from an Alpha GT200 GPU in February. In a GPU-Z screenshot of the supposedly benchmarked chip (see below), the card had 512MB of GDDR4 memory, but GPU-Z couldn’t probe the card for any other information. The card scored 16,646 in 3DMark06, but TulipGTX said that he would expect a score of up to 21,000 using the final silicon.
Expreview claims that both cards will be released in July this year, but we’ll have to wait and see if this turns out to be true. In the meantime, you’ll be pleased to know that another big hardware NDA (non-disclosure agreement) expires at 2pm this afternoon. If you want to find out what it is, then check back here later this afternoon.
when do we get the review . If this is fools day folly did CPC fall for it D,OH .

If Nvidia gave a new series number to an overclocked 8800, I won't hold out much hope that a sub series number change (ie 9800 to 9900) is anything more than a minor tweak.
They keep saying it will have GDDR4 memory all the time..... Nvidia have been using GDDR3 for how long? and they still kick ass! ... Ati have been in GDDR4, but ther cards just suck LOL
i think the NDA was about the 9800GTX, its not listed in the news section, go to the main website you'll see it there.
Is not a high score with a 5K CPU score. My 512MB GTS can score higher SM2.0/SM3.0 scores than that, as can most 8800GTX's and even GT's. The fact that he spurts stuff about getting 21K (a score that can again be matched by G80 and G92 GPU's), while again not mentioning anything about other hardware makes me think this is just someone looking for some attention.
In fact it's nearly 1700, so what did the NDA stop you talking about?
The only thing that springs to mind - not that I'm claiming I know much about SLI - would be the usual concerns over the PSU (depending on how old your setup is and its usual uptime/workload)..... and perhaps the usual reservations connected with SLI..... plus I guess for anyone to make any detailed comments you'd need to provide the spec. of your system.
Aren't you supposed to get the jokes out before 12:00 noon on April fools day? If true, this is great news as I already have one 8800GTX card and now the price will come down so I can get another or 2 for 3-way SLi. Just found one on www.aria.co.uk for £171.95 + VAT, they were £250 + VAT last year! Any thoughts on why it would be a bad idea to do a SLi with 2 or 3 now at this price?
We promise that this one isn't an April Fools day joke - various rumours about GT200 have been floating around for months. However, they are just rumours - none of this is confirmed fact.
I hate april fools day on the net you cant read anything with out fear of it being april fools joke
i think they are waiting for AMD to launch the 4870 X2, and then they're gonna jump out on them with these
