Arctic Cooling releases low profile CPU cooler

Freezer 7 LP offers a quiet cooler for LGA775 CPUs in media PC cases

Having a low-noise cooler that’s shaped like a skyscraper is all very well until you try to wedge one into a low-profile media PC case, which is a shame, because you really don’t want a CPU cooler whirring away like a small aeroplane during the quiet bits of a film. Thankfully, Arctic Cooling reckons it has the answer in the form of the Freezer 7 LP.

The new flat cooler will fit into a media PC case that’s only 70mm high, and Arctic Cooling claims that it’s still incredibly quiet. The company gives the example of cooling a Core 2 Quad E9550 with the Freezer 7 LP, which knocks 4.4°C off the temperature from the Intel reference cooler, but also makes much less noise, taking the noise level down from 1.75 Sone to just 0.5 Sone.

Arctic Cooling says that the Freezer 7 LP will cool any LGA775 CPU with a TDP of up to 90W, so it won’t cool top-end Quad core CPUs, but it will still cool a pretty decent processor. The cooler itself features two copper heatpipes and 40 aluminium fins, and it also comes with an 80mm fan with a fluid dynamic bearing. The fan’s speed can vary between 600rpm and 2,000rpm via PWM, and it also sits on a patented fan holder, which Arctic Cooling says eliminates buzzing sounds.

As well as this, it also comes with a pre-applied patch of Arctic Cooling’s own MX2 TIM. No UK pricing has been announced yet, but Arctic Cooling says that the Euro pricing will be €17.95 (£14.15).

zalman 8700? or a freezer 7 LP? benchies.. though, i think ill get the former for a less 'linear' airflow.

I think if you want one of these to cool an O'ced Q6600 you have the wrong CPU in the wrong chassis ;)

a low-profile media PC case is the target market for this witch is handy as you can over clock a cheap prosessor to do a grate jobwith blue ray, cooling an oc'd q6600 on the other hand i dont thinks it aimed at that

Anyone spot the design flaw?

The heat pipe evaporator plate and condenser are thermally coupled so it is more likely to function as an HSF than an HPC. I'd like to see how it compares to the Intel QX HSF.

Hmmm two pipes and a smaller surface area - somehow I don't think it will compete with a standard freezer7 pro, NikoBellic. Mind you, it looks ideal for my media chassis and I still want to see a test report in CPC.

They've had a low profile version of the Freezer 64 for a while now, I wonder why it's taken them so long to make a Freezer 7 version?

More cooling power Igor

I thought Arctic Cooling were producing an enhanced Freezer HSF (the Extreme?) not a reduced one?! Surely most ardent CPC'ers require more air cooling power for overclocked quads ......

help!

any idea if it'll fit into a dell vostro 200?

Comment by shirazman at 4:37pm 7th May 2008

Oops.

YES... that is a typo of the word 'custom' and I wasn't trying to be funny.

Normal use...

Although if you put it in a normal set-up with an up to date motherboard it will be dwarfed by the VRM heatsinks... lol. Nice cooler although it would be nice if Artic did a version with Led's as there are a lot of cunstom rigs out there that would love lights along with the benfit of great performance.

Comment by PokerMuppet at 3:46pm 7th May 2008

but how well can it cool an oc'd q6600?

Comment by ubersnug1 at 3:46pm 7th May 2008

comparisions

between the standard freezer 7 and the LP please CPC!!!

Comment by NikoBellic at 3:10pm 7th May 2008

Same as a Freezer 7

Looks like it'll cost about the same as the standard Freezer 7... can't wait for someone [like custompc] to get one so we can see if it's any good...
