European etailer shuts down operations in the UK, France, Germany and Austria
European online retailer Komplett has shut down its UK store, although we’ve had no explanation for the decision yet. At the moment, a notice on the store’s front page simply says that ‘As of 24 June 2008, Komplett.co.uk has closed down its UK operations. We regret to inform you that it is no longer possible for UK customers to make any purchases from Komplett.co.uk anymore.’
However, the notice adds that Komplett UK’s customer service team will remain available ‘for the time being’ to answer queries and warranty questions about products bought from the store. The notice says that previous Komplett customers can email the team at service@komplett.co.uk, and that Komplett will do its ‘utmost to answer any e-mail within 2 working days.’
It looks as though you’ll be stuck with just the email address, though. We just tried to call the phone number for Komplett, and the line went dead after going through the automated call-direction process. We’ll bring you more information as and when we get it.
UPDATE: Since this story went up yesterday, Komplett has confirmed that it has closed its UK, German, French and Austrian websites. Komplett's marketing manager, Menno Cadel, explained to Custom PC that this was 'due to lacking results,' and that Komplett wanted to 'increase focus and accelerate growth in both Holland and Ireland,' which he described as the company's 'two biggest markets.' Cadel also added that Komplett is looking for sales expansion, rather than geographical expansion. As such, it plans to open a new branch Irish office in Dublin later this year.
this story is older than I thought...BUT. soon after the increased sales, Komplett apparently began calling its customers 'criminals' and other such things for buying products from them, thinking that this is perhaps the most unusual way an online retailer has shown its appreciation for consumers decisions to purchase goods from them, there was a 'customer revolt' and some of the 'correspondance' from Komplett to its customers is at best a tad insensitive and at worst, downright rude. I wonder if their forthright attitude hasn't come back to bite their danglers off
...well, sort of, it's a bit old now, but back in March, Komplett made a cock-up that resulted in them offering 512Mb DRAM modules for £13. This was down to 'human error' and the particular human involved in that error was "hung drawn and truely quartered, had his parking space given to the lunch lady and his pension shared among the warehouse staff". Apparently, through word-of-web-echo the company's sales did ok as a result just afterwards but perhaps they did not-so-well soon after that. there's links to the stories concerning it at the bottom of the page HERE-> http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2008/06/24/komplett_down_pan/
All i got from them was dreadful service. I ordered a mobo off them (which had been opened as the security seal was broken...WHY...) and it was faulty. They wouldn't give me a refund even though they admitted opening the box. The OEM Q6600 had a big score down 1 side of it. It looked to me like they were second hand and being sold as new..... I will never shop there again, and tell all my friends the same. Always had great service from my local store or Overclockers / Ebuyer.
I've had nothing but great service from them, far better than scan or tekheads, ebuyer, i've used them all. I have just brought a load of components from them which is a bummer if things go wrong. Good job a credit card was used.
in the uk for them to stay. you have ocuk ( which i will never buy from again ) scan , aria etc etc. all u have here in ireland is them and elara.ie. truth be told, i love the irish site and the service i get. its fast and aftersales is a joy. i'll continue to buy from them for the foreseeable future. im a very happy customer regarding them.
I've had stock problems similar to KoopaTurtle from Scan but I found it elsewhere and got that item from the other ppl. I still use scan when they've got the better prices but I'd say EBuyer, Dabs, Scan & Overclockers are generally what I use but all their prices are similar, just a case of being patient, although I've found EBuyer to be clearly cheaper for large (24"+) TFT screens.
I got a system a couple of years ago from komplett, got exactly what i wanted and delivery and service was excellent. The price was pretty much on par as everywhere else as i did shop around a bit. I think it s a shame to see them go but its a buisness and you go where the money is so i can't blame them
I ordered a complete machine in bits from them a few years ago, all of it was said to be in stock. I received an e-mail a few days later saying there was a few 'problems' i.e. NONE of what i ordered was in stock. Fair enough i thought I'm in no rush i'll wait until they promised delivery the next week. Low and behold another e-mail next week and another week to wait but i was definately promised delivery in this week - by the sales manager no less. Next week no e-mail, no packages so I cacelled the order, but it took another full WEEK to receive the refund. All in All I feel komplett were a complete waste of space...
Cruel, cruel man :) OK, so they were taking hits to their business on the continent as well as the UK. If the Irish and Dutch have given them the greatest support, then despite the redundancies elsewhere they have to focus on where the money is. Also forgot to add that Novatech's another great secondary source for my purchases, particularly legacy stuff.
i've bought many clearance items from them and got some major bargains, its a shame to see them go because their service and delivery to Northern Ireland was Half that of Scan.co.uk
I dont understand why people are slating Komplett they were very competitive and I always enjoyed theyre european hardware that you couldnt get anywhere here. I bought a D-Link DSL cable router with intergrated printer server from them, bought it on the UK site and they posted it to me from the Netherlands where they had stock and the same for my Logitech Z5450 wireless speakers, cant say that about any other UK site. I bought several things from Komplett and never EVER had a problem with anything, something unfortunately I cant say about scan, ebuyer and play. I admit Scan have better prices but theyre delivery charges are obscene.
they have the best customer service and good, knowledgable people if you want to discuss any technical stuff
As far as I am concerned I have no time for a company that shows and advertises stock that they don't actually have. About a year ago I was after a new cooler for an old SocketA board. They had all the top items advertised as in stock and I chose a Zalman LED only to be told that it was out of stock and the advertised stock level was what they were expecting to arrive. 6 weeks later they still had no stock but were showing that they did. They then offered an alternative and when I placed the order guess what, they had no stock of that item as well. Even though they had recommended it to me! They then sent me an email saying that they had no stock of ANY SocketA coolers. Buying things is all about trust and you can't trust a company that tries to sell stock it doesn't actually have. Scan and Ebuyer have always been my preference for componants and that will continue.
I agree they where not cheap. However I bought my PC from them 2 years ago and Id have to give them 8/10. Great machine performance wise but a wee bit expensive. I got to custom chose my parts they put it together and got a warranty.
I have purchased a CPU from them once they was the only etailer which stocked it at the time, but they was damn exspensive even more than overclockers when i was shopping around a year ago and alot of there items you could see a extra £20 on top compaired to the competion. But saying that there customer service was good on the two times i had to call them i got through straight away (maybe i was there only customer i dont know) :D
i don't recall them shooting people for voting the wrong way...still tbh as said if their irish and continental businesses are better then it better for them. TBH their prices were similar to dabs on a few things but not much. I don't mind shopping around a bit if it can save me a fiver here and there (I actually saved £50 on my second Pc by shopping around!)
Well that one is still up and running, and they do a good business here in Ireland. Be a pity if they do close.
If Komplett's doing better on the continent, it's natural for them to concentrate on those sites. I've stuck with eBuyer for everything big and have bought only my third item from Overclockers in four years, today. Once you have a "home" site where you're cool with the prices, you don't tend to shop around.
Yay! That means one less spam return on my uk google searches. ;-)
