The original first person shooter returns for more supernatural Nazi-busting action
The more crinkly gamers among you may remember when the original Wolfenstein 3D burst onto the 386 scene, causing squeals of glee with its smooth 3D action, not to mention the chance to gun down a mutant Hitler equipped with twin machine guns. However, we haven’t been given any new Nazi-gunning action since 2001’s Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but id Software plans to rectify this with a brand new Wolfenstein game.
The new game’s announcement came via Activision, which was recently dropped as the publisher of id’s forthcoming Rage game in favour of EA. Few details have been revealed about the new Wolfenstein, although Activision released plenty of screenshots this morning, which you can see below.
Activision describes the new game as ‘the ultimate supernatural thriller,’ and revealed a few details of the story too. The game promises to be set in a ‘near-fictional, historical WWII setting,’ in which you will ‘battle against combat troops, otherworldly forces, and the dark science created by a supernatural Nazi force hell-bent on world domination.’ Activision also promises ‘an arsenal of conventional and otherworldly weapons’ to help in your attempts to annihilate the Nazi war machine.’
No release date for the game has been revealed yet, but Activision says the game will be available on the PC, as well as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Believe it or not there are still a few of us die hards out here that still have Wolf Clans and Servers. We've been salivating over this game for about four years since they first announced it was in production. It was/is by far the best Multiplayer FPS ever and after four years, I don't expect anything less than an awesome game for the next sequel. Outkast Warriorz!!
I didn't mean the graphics when I said it looked dull. The game sounds like it's going to be more of the same mundane FPS games which have been f;looding the market since forever. If the way it works is much the same as RtCW then it won't offer anything even remotely new. I'll stick with STALKER and Crysis for now... and then maybe clear skys when its out... at leasty these seem to be a bit different to the run of the mill shooters
I play RTCW a number of times on all the difficulty setting, was a good game that kept me entertained and introduced me to online gameplay, if this is as good gameplay and entertainment wise it'll be on the top of my shopping list, hell might even make me take a couple of days off from playing wow!!
I know a few people still playing good ol RtCW, and I've got my copy sitting around gathering dust but keep meaning to go back to it. This could be a good bit of nostalgia for a fair few people, regardless of the graphics. In fact, lower graphics requirements will probably make it more popular for those who haven't kept up with technology updates. I wouldn't count on this being DX10, or at least exclusively DX10.
MOH Airbourne with plasma guns and better texture/surface detail. I loveed the effects of things like water reflections in between cobbles on the streets but for some reason the textures and surfaces seemed a little flat, like BF1942 but without being able to use vehicles etc, which made it a disappointment. This does look good though, hopefully it'll play just as good...I'm wrinkly enough to remember the original - and I must say - Mutant Hitler? he looked exactly like he did in his portraits!
ran on id's doom engine, I know quake 4 was released just after doom 3 and I thought that used they both used the same engine.
I don't know, it looks like a modded Quake 3 engine to me.
Not very impressed by the level of detail and the strange green color of the german soldiers. I wonder if this is due to the game being a giant sandbox experiance?
