We’re now officially five years old, and we’re marking the occasion with two special edition covers for the latest issue
Ready your party hats, dig out the candles and bake a big chocolate cake, Custom PC is now onto its 60th issue, which means that we’re now officially five years old. To mark this cause for merriment, we’ve released Issue 60 with a choice of two special edition covers; a green one featuring Nvidia’s new GTX 280 in all its glory, and a red one showing off ATI’s Radeon HD 4850. So, if you’re inclined towards irrational brand loyalty, you can pick the cover to suit your own fanboy affiliation, or you can just pick the one that you think looks best.
As the special edition covers suggest, Issue 60 features an in-depth comparative test of all the new next-gen graphics cards. This includes Nvidia's latest bank-busting GTX 280, and the lower-priced GTX 260, as well as ATI's brand new Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 cards.
However, there are plenty of other goodies in the mag too. For a start, we’ve got a review of Foxconn's new Blackops motherboard, with optional liquid-nitrogen cooling, and we've also got a full feature on multi-monitor gaming. Plus, if that's not enough for you, there's also a foolproof guide to building your own media PC, as well as a big group test of all the necessary components needed to put together a media PC.
Issue 60 of Custom PC is on sale at newsagents throughout the UK now, although you can also subscribe if you want to get your hands on future editions of the mag before they reach the shops.
Ok it was 5:00 o'clock in the morning and I was drunk, lol. But that would be amazing wouldn't it, *as I just dust off my time machine* :| @Niko - "Stoke fan" you should keep that sort of stuff to yourself. ;) COME ON YOU SPURS!. Is it inappropriate to shout football chants on a PC website? Actually if it's PC, I can say anything...(apart from things about religion, and gays... and many other things that I'm not gonna add in fear of coming across as some radical conspiracy dwelling nut freak. I like lesbians, I'm just gonna shut up.
If thats the case, then I guess it just makes more sence me going red (Being a Stoke fan!) - the Blues can choose Intel as their colour!! ;)
There was only the red one in my newsagents... It mentioned the 4870X2 coming up, can't wait to see how it stacks up; and how 2 of them compare to 3 GTX280s!
These cards are a big letdown for me they don't have the grunt I think is needed for DX10. And until they do software has to cater for the majority of people. And most of us only have 1 graphics card. SLI and Xfire might have the performance thats needed. So from that point i think ATI came out of this one ahead as 3 ati cards is almost affordable.
At first I thought, strange decision. But now I can see maybe people care which copy's better to buy. My local newsagent only had the ATI version so that's the one I have. I also thought they would be telliing us to buy both copies; put them in a safe for a century and then your ancestors will reap the rewards. *if the world hasn't ended by then. I couldn't really care which issue I got but it was a bit annoying to be given a choice, but quite refreshing to then ultimatly not have to make that choice, I mean I'm so indecisive I would of been there forever. However it wouldn't have been that hard, defiantly not as hard as picking between the 4870 and the 260 (for me anyway). But no doubt CustomPC to the rescue yet again. The review of these cards in this edition has helped a lot. I can see now people pick hardware as they do their favourite colour or football team. For me it's what ever is around at the time with a good price-to-performance ratio. But if I were to pick on colour alone, 'cos there's no blue (being a Spurs fan) I'll choose Green.
I didn't realise that a sarcastic comment could start such a big debate over whos better than who - - - My'ns better than yooours :P , no my'ns better than yoouurrssss!!! >:-( , lol
I've been working on a gap year in an ASDA store and I do the news papers and magazines in the mornings and I was disappointed that we only got the ATI variety. Mind you, didn't stop me buying it. :)
my subs cover was better looking than those shown why the crapy backdrop squares r so crapy and the ati has a smilly ish curve stupid idea but what the hell do i know and do i realy care anyhow i will sleep on it perhaps Cya jj7
THe cover story my subs mag had both the ati grfx card was smaller than the nvidia card standing next too one another ati is still crop though compared too the nvidia cards sorry ati fans bot it is and we should all thank goodness for this if this post makes any cence then jollie good if not SO jj7
yap on about my love of cheap but faster and faster and not so fast make no or little sense spell badlie and have another say on what the last post posted ha ha ha ha NVIDIA is still KING dont care what anyoneelse thinks or sayes including CPC staff stuff mmm lol yap yap babablelee Cya jj7
Does the ATi one advertise CPC on the front but what you get is a magazine dedicated to PC world? I also heard that when the van driver delivered them, he crashed, apprentely he was a bad driver. He also took longer to deliver the ATi magazines than the NVIDIA one. Apparently his engine was hot due to the high power usage when idling in traffic. ..... C'mon guys, drop the crap, most of you have been using NVIDIA cards for the past 3 years, so stop crapping on them all because ATi has released new cards. ATi have some nice new cards, but they still do not have the highest performing.. atm.
Does the nvidia version have twice as many pages, cost double the price, but have the same amount of content?
I much prefer ATi over nVidia right now (I have no idea why, I used to hate ATi too...) but that red issue looks really bad... Gonna have to go with green.
I'm a mad XFX/NVIDIA/RAZER Fanboy but i have the subscribers issue, Gonna have to go get the nvidia one too. might get the ATI... And burn it :) Already Got my XFX 260 GTX XXX and its a manic card with WAY more performance than you need completely comfortable at 1680*1050 and a great buy wouldnt buy the 4870 cos its cheap
Find out on the way home.
it makes a big difference does'nt it. my newsagent only offers one issue so what one am i gonna get.......it so exciting...not :0
i have to say im preffering the look of the nvidia one!! gj CPC
90% of all statistics are made up on the spot and 110% of statistics are wrong. ;)
60% of the readers will pick up the mag for the mag and not the cover. 30% will get what they receive, whether it being their mail order, or the only thing in the store. 20% will choose. So there is no real way of keeping track of it now, unless they ask stores, but I do not think many stores would be willing to comply with such rubbish.
has CPC arranged anything to find out which cover is going to be the most popular.... who will win?
I bet the red version has a couple of pages missing...and probably isn't as good as it could be. Where as the green version has a bit more bulk to it.... buts starts to get really hot the more you read it ;)
You're really good to us CPC! Be interesting to hear which fanboy base buys the most.
and for all the ATI fanboys out there......... NO the red version isnt cheaper than the green!
my local tescos only had the nvidia cover although i never noticed it was one of two until i got home and started to shift through my mag :) least the good old content is the same
