Spartan 300 features a 3.5GHz overclock, a Radeon HD 4850 and 2GB of OCZ PC2-8500 Reaper memory
Most Custom PC readers will readily tell you that you can get a much faster PC for less money by carefully selecting your components and overclocking them, but it’s not often you see a pre-overclocked gaming rig for just £499. That’s the price of YoYoTech’s new Spartan 300, and it hasn’t got a skimpy specs list either.
The machine's CPU may only be a lowly 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo E7200, but YoYoTech will be overclocking this to 3.5GHz as standard, using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro cooler. The overclock will be set in the BIOS of the machine’s MSI P43 motherboard as standard, and it will also be backed by a 12-month warranty.
So what else do you get for £499? Well, there’s 2GB of OCZ PC2-8500 Reaper memory, a 512MB Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 graphics card and the machine even comes housed in an airflow-friendly Antec Three Hundred case. This is kitted with a 550W PSU, which might not offer a huge amount of power, but it’s perfectly adequate for an overclocked Core 2 Duo and a Radeon HD 4850. Also included in the PC is a 320GB Samsung SpinPoint hard drive and a DVD burner.
YoYoTech is clearly proud of the Spartan 300, and claims that ‘You might buy a “famous name” PC for £499 – but its performance will surely crumble against the Spartan.’ Are you looking for a gaming PC on a tight budget? If so, would you consider buying a PC such as this, or would you prefer to build it yourself? Let us know in the comments section below.
I might add, that you your point would have been much clearer if you had used punctuation...and spelt words properly.
Agreed. Until ATi release decent drivers, I will not purchase one of their cards. Devoid of reviews, people are getting problems everywhere with the current drivers.
Nice little gaming rig - beats anything Dell has at a similar price. Let's hope they can advertise this little beauty & sell a load of 'em and we might see some better deals from other manufacturers. :-)
@Commission3r, i think its safe to say we all know who the actual retard is! Who let out all the ATI fanboys?? Centy's comment was from a personal point of view, i cannot believe you guys are being so one sided, its all about preference. So what if it comes with an ATI, and so what if Centy wants an Nvidia? Taking someones words and twisting them is very easy when you don't engage your brain. As for the PC, yes its a good build, but i myself would also prefer an Nvidia as i would "Seriously" contemplate a purchase....... As for being a fanboy, is this not the reason we actually build our own machines?? if we wanted to just be given any old crap i would go and buy any old PC.
With regards to the returns policy, I can't blame any retailer for checking their returns out before issuing replacement or refund. However I think it is important to manage the customer experience of this. I can't comment on the prices but given the competition on the Tottenham Court Road, I'd expect the margins to be quite tight. I don't buy my components from retail premises but although my usual supplier charges an extra 50p in every hundred pounds or so, the quality of service and after sales is worth the premium. Systems specs do look for the price.

You really didn't get the point of thic PC did you, Great stuff YoYo hope more builds like this come along.
I take it you're not best pleased with the service then? Fair enough, I don't doubt you've had a bad experience - I myself am currently on the verge of threatening court action against Scan, (coincidently, YoYo we great for me - like Lightning Pete said, it's just the luck of the draw). Re: your comments on the spec of this machine though, I do think you've rather missed the point. You call this machine 'entry level'. Well, yes. It's supposed to be entry level - that's the whole point. The spec, with the pre-overclock & pre-build for the price looks like excellent value to me. You have to remember that not everyone has, (or wants to spend) £1k or more on a PC. By the way, SLI is every bit as rubbish and uneconomical as crossfire...
Savage It happens everywhere i wouldnt worry about it. At the same time businesses have to cover their own arses sometimes too.. its all a game of cat and mouse between the business and consumer. On a brighter note.. that PC looks dam well great, especially for the non d.i.y. pc type. 500 quid and overclocked and good for gaming? plenty of hd space and a brilliant case? cant really complain ther like
Customer Service is crap especially in store at their Tottenham court road site.. Just you try and return some faulty kit and they act like, you've broken it yourself - I bought some Razer headphones from them had them two weeks got a loose connection in the rear channels and feedback (echoing) from the mic.. so I took them back and asked for my money back or a replacement. They gave a line of horseshit about it being my fault and I hadn't treated them right.. Even though most forum included Razerzone was saying it was a common fault and to do with manufacturing process... It wasn't until I threatened them with a call to trading standards, with reference to a total breach of my statutory rights that they gave me my money back.... What's more their prices are over inflated on a lot of their kit and the staff come across as arrogant and moody.. Especially their assistant manager (You'll know him because he's got glasses and ignore everyone). I have never seen him serve a customer, I think he believes it's beneath him. Doesn't matter if your an I.T professional or a gamer or a fan.. they'll try and baffle you with bullshit and sell you stuff that you don't need.. Like this rig for example yeah it's 500quid.. but the spec is truly awful it's entry level. You'll just be upgrading it again in a year.. so what's the point... If you got 500quid spare save yourself some cash and get a console.... or save it get another 500quid together and buy something truely decent. Had loads of problems with this company, I truely believe there a wiser and more helpful people out there. Try Aria, try scan, you'll regret you ever set foot in YoYo..... ATi cards???!!! come on guys get with the program.... Crossfire is dead.... long Live SLI....

For godsake, this fan boy stuff really does my head in, so what if this machine has a ATI Card in it instead of an Nvidia card. Nvidia and its fans arn't enjoying the word ATI as the moment ha ha, thinnk there annoyed that they have competition.

Hi All, Thanks for your kind words - we are proud of this unit and hoping we can convince Clive & the Crew to put it under the CPC Microscope to see if our faith is well placed (nudge nudge Clive !) If anyone is interested - here is a direct buy link... http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=234559 We'd also love it if any CPC readers wanted to come in to our store at 30 Windmill Street, London W1T 2JL and grill us :~) We are half way between Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road stations - just opposite Carphone Warehouse To give you an idea of how nutz we are - on a good day, we will have up to 48 PSUs on the shelves. Nope. Not 48 boxes... 48 DIFFERENT PSUs... we're that g33ky :~)
This is absoloutely fantastic. I'm sure if more companies offered machines like this it would do a great deal to help get more people into PC gaming and I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend it to anyone. @ Centy, why be such an Nvidia fanboy about it? The Radeon 4850 is perfect for a machine like this, it has enough clout to give a good gaming experience in pretty much any games out at the moment, and it beats anything Nvidia can offer at the same price.
as a 1st pc its pretty tempting even u cant deny that have u stepd inside yoyotech store? they no their stuff stop being a pathetic fan boy oh nvidia marry me wut a retard
If this does well then other will follow Im sure... as to the Nvidia n ATI argument I think theres more competition lately than there has been for a while .. the new 260/280's are like little fan heaters noisy and hot ... but we'll see the outcome soon.. This would be ideal for a parent to buy their kid on a budget who doesnt know very much about building.. most of the time a savvy person can build for less but we dont all have this knowhow.. See how prices come down... a little version for under my TV would be nice ... straming media etc...
@ centy so would a MX440 Nvidia gpu be better for you. :P
Lol well isn't this something? We build something similar and have done for over 6 months now (ok so we're not as cheap but we're in the main st and have alot of bills to pay and ours comes with an OS pre-installed - I don't think this 1 does does it?) but it's nice to see that this idea is catching on to help people get the most for their money :)
Not a bad deal for the young pc starter but i would prefer to build my own.
I'm more for building my own rigs but that sounds like a good deal if you wanna buy a pre-built one
Soon enough your son will be building computers for you Centy and you can relax with a nice cup of ice tea mouse at the ready :-)
There is a review of this over on Overclock3d, looks like a very good machine for the money.
It looks very good, I'd recommend it to my friend but I'd still do a home build myself
"I think if this had a Nvidia card in it it would be something I would seriously contemplate." Just becouse it has Radeon 4850 ( By the way, a VERY good card ), it means it's not something "Serious" ? By the way, i think it's something awesome. You could get the same by building it piece by piece, but if your just a casual PC gamer, or you don't have the time or will to build your own PC - it's perfect answer.
I would love to be able to buy every component seperately but these days my son is now 3 and I find I dont have the spare time to spend an afternoon building and then installing everything. I think if this had a Nvidia card in it it would be something I would seriously contemplate.
