Features a separate PCB for VTT regulation and onboard overclocking controls
Although the release of Intel’s Nehalem architecture and X58 chipset is still teasing us from a distance, both Asus and MSI have already unveiled some X58 boards. So far Asus has only officially shown off the P6T Deluxe, but we’ve just been tipped off about these photos of the forthcoming Rampage II Extreme at Plaza.fi.
Asus was unable to provide any extra comment on the new LGA1366 board, as the photos had been unofficially leaked, but they certainly look legitimate. Of particular interest to overclockers is a new PCB next to the chipset heatsink that’s labelled VTT CPU Power Card, as well as a a set of controls and connectors on the edge of the board labelled 'Extreme OC'.
Like the P6T Deluxe, the Rampage Extreme II also has three PCI-E graphics slots, which we assume could be used for both 3-way SLI and CrossFire. The board also features the six DIMM slots needed to run a pair of triple-channel DDR memory kits, as well as a single PCI slot and two 1x PCI-E slots.
That’s all the information we have at the moment, but it’s worth noting that Asus managed to get an amazing FSB clock of 710.4MHz (2,840MHz effective) from the original X48-based Rampage Extreme, and it looks as though this could well be a similarly good board for overclockers too.

looks like tekheads have it available for preorder oooow
All we can say about this board after testing the prototype with Intel's new processor is that this board rules 3Dmark Vantage. All CPU scores are well over 30,000. Once again Asus has put out the top leading board for a new socket. Thanks for the prototype Asus to ad we had to give it back. Owner, CBGPCS

On the meaning of 'VTT CPU Power Card' - it provides a 16-phase CPU and 3-phase memory power design. More for increased overclocking & better stability. I wish there was more room to actually use x3 PCIe, but most serious gamers have their own dedicated soundcard that needs its own PCI slot, which in turns blocks off the PCIe gfx slot. On my X48 motherboard, I already have two 4870s + a soundcard, and thats all I can have, no room for ati Ageia physics as well.
When the new X58 boards come out all the LGA 775 are going to drop in price. Time to pick up some cheap motherboards and quad cores
Again from ASUS... No QuadFire with 2 4870X2's as the 2nd card slot won't get air, unless you're water-cooling them.
will I see a worthy increase in performance if I upgrade from a q9450 to the new intel chip?
The comments repeat if you hit refresh... just dont do that. I find that if it hasn't reloaded properly just clicking on the link again is better than hitting refresh
(note: this comment is not by 'KxKuK' either) this comments system is messed up, anyone can copy and paste a username from a comment already posted, plus as u can see the comments randomly repeat when the page does not load properly
What about all those jumpers or whatever on the right of the board (next to the power buttons)? Are those maybe individual CMOS clear jumpers, or part of the on-the-fly overclocking? That VTT board looks weird, but I'd like to hear what ASUS say it does for the board when overlcocking.
Sorry, Custom PC comments are now closed.
