To celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘the game that started it all’, Valve has kindly put the classically awesome Half-Life on sale for just 98 cents.
For those that have been locked in a large wooden chest,
thrown inside a larger metal chest, buried and then forgotten about for 10
years, Half-Life is one of the greatest games to have ever graced the industry.
Before Half-Life, you might have pictured an accountant in Basingstoke
when hearing the name Gordon Freeman, and it’s testament to Valve’s design that
Freeman’s bearded, crowbar-wielding figure became such a memorable character.
Half-Life took the kill-the-aliens story that had been a
staple of FPS games for years, and combined it with an engrossing story and an
imaginative, apocalyptic setting that pitted you against everything from aliens
and mutant headcrabs to ninjas and marines.
Half-Life is most definitely a game to experience for those
very few gamers that haven’t already, and as it’s less than a quid until 8pm
tomorrow evening, you’ve really no excuse not to. Click here to download Steam.
I actually got all the half lifes for free when steam came out initially ... I purchased a 7800GTX and got half life 2 which also came with all the other versions (lost coast , blue and red version , day of defeat source and couple of other games ) ... might install steam and give them another go .... see if Half life Lost coast looks as good as I remember on the old GTX ..
This is stupid, if you were "locked in a large wooden chest, thrown inside a larger metal chest, buried" for 10 years, you would be dead. No one can survive without food or water for more than 8 days.
...who's slightly concerned about how young people were when this game came out? I was in my 20s and working full time by the time Half-Life came out - it doesn't seem that long ago to an old man like me! 64p for Half-Life is a bargain - I've just bought it - why wouldn't you?
I was 13 on its release. Locked myself in my room, and pounded out 40 hours...of gaming! God knows what my parents thought! Amazing game, will definately be getting it again at this price...although I am tempted byu the Source version...
10 years ago i was 6 years old, not exactly the age to be playing half-life. but i got the orange box about 6 months back ad have been playing through hl2 lately. i sure would like to understand the series more by playing the first part, and for $0.98 i have no reason not to.
Bought it, 80p!! Installed fine on netbook, but it won't let me pick 1024x600 res, it only has 640x480 and 800x600. 640x480 seems to fine brilliant, no lag at all. Quite hard with the track pad, need to fiddle with sensitivty settings.
You really can't argue with that value. I am new to pc gaming and didn't really understand HL2 when I played the first hour or so. Left it alone, reformated and have never reinstalled :( Hopefully this will grip me and lead me to want to play through HL2, and both the subsequent "chapters".
Hats off dude, that's dedication to the art of gaming!
I'm just getting it now, for a steam account on my netbook. Hopefully, as its a low req game it should work. Just got to learn to play with a trackpad at 1024x600 res. :D
At this price, you have to buy it. If you can find the extra $9, get the Source version. Same game just polished in beautiful source glory.
...is nostalgic, historic and educational. Anyone claiming to be a PC gamer must have played this game to qualify.
other things you can spend 50p on, 50 1p sweets, a very small bag of nuts, a newspaper, a completely new identity online, a thai wife, and if your flying by ryan air a flight to france and back. you know what, half life still wins this one
That must be the best spent 50p ever. (or what ever the 98 cents are at now) I "sold" my copy of Halflife to Game years ago, hell, for 98 cents I might buy it again and have some fun with it again
