Most marketing managers wouldn't dream of putting 'fatality' and 'power supply' in the same sentence, but it's a whole different ballgame when it comes to PC gaming hardware. We’ve already had Fatal1ty motherboards, graphics cards, memory, sound cards and even mouse pads so far, and now OCZ has announced the next stage in Fatal1ty's quest for PC domination with a new range of PSUs with glowing red LEDs.

Three models have been launched, with outputs of 700W, 550W and 400W, The 700W model is slightly different from your average PSU, though, as it offers a huge 56A single +12V rail, so you shouldn’t need to worry about your graphics card(s) or CPU demanding more than your PSU can deliver. The 700W unit also features a 30A +5V rail and a 28A +3.3V rail, with a combined maximum power output of 180W.

Meanwhile, the other two models offer the standard pair of +12V rails, with 25A rails on the 550W unit, and 18A rails on the 400W PSU. All of the PSUs have also received the 80Plus certification, meaning that it’s been tested to be 80 per cent (or more) efficient at 20 per cent, 50 per cent and 100 per cent loads, with a true power factor of at least 0.9. However, the PSUs feature different cabling systems from each other, with the top two models featuring a modular cabling system, while the 400W unit has a standard cable setup.

Although we don’t know what role Fatal1ty had in the development of the PSUs, OCZ claims that they were ‘co-developed with the expertise of Johnathan ‘Fatal1ty’ Wendel, 12-time World champion, to meet the specific needs of fellow gamers.’ Meanwhile, the man himself said that ‘having a powerful and consistent power supply is important to make sure all of my components run how they were built to run. I am really excited about working with OCZ and their PC Power & Cooling unit which is known to employ some of the best PSU engineers in the business.’

Is a 700W PSU with a single 56A +12V rail enough for your gaming needs, or would you rather split the +12V load over two or more rails? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

If that guy knows anything about PSU designs.. or if he actually drew up the plans for it, I wouldn't touch it with a pole.

I had the Fatal1ty headset from Creative and thought it was ok. That was until I bought some PC161's. They make the Fatal1ty's look usless. Its just branding gimmicks. Hopefully this PSU will stand up in its own right.

I have one Fatal1ty branded product - my X-Fi sound card. The branding really put me off but at the time it was the only product with built in memory and the front drive bay that I wanted, so I just hide the card at the bottom of my case and cover over the logo on the front drive bay so no one has to know.

more power

if only ocz released a 1000w version of this, it would be useful for core i7s, gtx280s and watercooling setups....

everyone knows that a single more powerful rail is better than seperated rails. but anyway, jonathan wendel is a mug and i wouldnt touch anything with his francised tag all over it

Fatal1ty always lookes like Falulty at a glance.

I got my 880w psu for under £90 (i actual dont know if its a good one as the computer doesnt go on till monday.)

price?

i have the coolermaster silent pro 700w which is the best 700w psu money can buy according to almost every review iv e read. amazing performance and value for money. almost silent and has flat modular cables for easy management. the other reason i went for it over the ve quiet models was that like the fatality here it has 1 single 12a rail and so i wont need to worry about power usage for a while! if the 700w model is priced at £90 or below they re on to a winner but knowing anything "branded". its going to be horribly overpriced!
