Verdict: Super-fast and super-shiny
GeIL has a reputation for quality, so when we finally managed to get our hands on its latest PC 4400 memory, we were expecting it to perform well.
And it did. GeIL's rather overly swanky Ultra Platinum series memory simply works. In fact, it works so well that it took longer to find a machine that could test its limits than the testing itself.
When we eventually stuffed the modules into the CPC Dream PC we were pleased to find that it ran with no problems at its standard timings of 3-4-4-8 at 2.8V.
The results, though, were almost identical to those of the Kingston, even though it runs 10MHz slower. This may be because we were using a very low bus multiplier of 14 on our engineering sample CPU, so the CPU was only running 124MHz faster when we tested the GeIL.
Unlike the Kingston, we couldn't overclock the GeIL beyond its stated speed (550MHz), something that seems par for the course with high-end memory these days.
GeIL's Ultra Platinum memory works stably, and ran happily at a massive 550MHz throughout our testing. And although it does require slightly more voltage than the Kingston, it also runs ever so slightly faster.
